Why Don't Students Like School: Introduction

“Repetition is good for learning but terrible for motivation.”

Agreed that repeating long division problems in class isn't motivating, but repeating things students have read as a homework assignment helps solidify concepts.  I have my staff do a recap of the main concepts of the online homework assignments at the start of every class to point out what's really important.

“You’ll learn why it’s more useful to view the human species as bad at thinking rather than as cognitively gifted.”

LOL

“Why Don’t Students Like School? ranges over a variety of subjects in pursuit of two goals that are straightforward but far from simple: to tell you how your students’ minds work, and to clarify how to use that knowledge to be a better teacher.

I'm playing with the capabilities of my Mac desktop.  I'm having it "speak" the book to me and using the copy and paste function from iBook to my blog.  I am such a computer nerd.

  1. It would be great if you could demo the Mac desktop technique your are using in class.

  2. I'll test the same techniques using my laptop and bring it to class for show-and-tell :)
